I'm extremely excited to announce that The Society of Publication Designers recently posted a feature highlighting some of the work that Chris has done during his tenure (the first 10 months) as the Art Director of MauiTime. He's a huge fan and avid reader of SPD.org, so it's a big honor—especially being written by the legendary Robert Newman. The best of the best in publication design are involved with SPD, so to have his work featured and seen by its members is really extraordinary.
See the article HERE.
Also, this week he found out that he is a finalist for the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies 2010 Competition in the "Cover Design - Circulation Under 50,000" category. This is a really exciting accomplishment because pretty much every alternative weekly in the country enters this contest each year, so to be in the top 4 is a pretty big achievement. Especially considering that he was choosing 3 of his best covers from 3 months worth of work (he started at MauiTime in August and didn't have the redesign in place until October), when most weeklies have a full years worth of work to choose from. Additionally, this will be the first time MauiTime has ever placed in the AAN awards—a goal he made to the company upon being hired.
The final rankings of the winners won't be announced until the official awards ceremony in Toronto on July 16, so keep your fingers crossed!
